The Artisan Collection

A small group of independent makers whose work we sell alongside our own. Everything here is made by hand in the American Southwest, in runs of a few dozen or fewer, and none of it is restocked to order — when a maker's batch is gone, it is gone until they make another.

The makers

Big Bend Metalsmith, West Texas. Hand-hammered sterling silver and copper worked on a ranch outside Big Bend National Park — the Dark Sky cuffs struck with moons and stars, a silver arrowhead, and sterling earrings. The celestial patterns come from the sky over the workshop, which is one of the darkest in the lower forty-eight.

Sonoita Leather Company, Arizona. Bags and small goods cut from upcycled cowboy boots. The leather has already had one life, so the tooling, wear and color are different on every piece.

Ceramics. Wheel-thrown and hand-finished bowls and vessels, glazed in small kiln loads. The clay vessels also take a candle refill if you would rather not keep buying glass.

Why the pieces are one of a kind

Hand-hammered metal takes the mark of the hammer, upcycled leather carries the history of the boot it came from, and a glaze behaves differently depending on where a piece sits in the kiln. Photographs on these pages show the piece that was photographed, not the piece you will receive. That variation is the point of the collection rather than a defect in it.

Buying from the collection

Artisan pieces are excluded from site-wide discount codes — the margins are the makers' before they are ours. Stock counts on these pages are literal: if it says two, there are two.
